ABOUT THE ARTIST
I am a nurturer, plain and simple. It is from this place that inspiration and creativity flows. The objects and subjects of my nurturing range from my “tribe” to the land I live on or my current season of life. My desire is to capture, express and memorialize it in meaningful, enduring ways. Creating jewelry, especially using materials that have been nurtured and formed by the earth itself, does that for me.
Over twenty years ago, when I first tried my hand at making jewelry, I had one simple desire: I wanted to “give a good gift”. Creating jewelry for gifts was my way to nurture relationships through giving. This creative process introduced me to a new undiscovered love of jewelry making.
I gravitate toward natural media - fine metals, pearls and natural gemstones, especially those that remind me of Alaska.
My business is named for my mother, Frances Willowdean, who I watched expressing her creativity at her sewing machine, using what she had, so that in her own simple, gracious way could give a good gift.
I was born and raised in Middle TN. In 1987 I married my husband Jon & together we have raised our five children while shaping our little plot of Alaskan wilderness. Teasingly, I say that this is my third career. My first career was as an RN and the second was raising five children. Now, I get to pursue this long-time love of creating jewelry.
